APS-C WOW! Canon EOS-M with 22mm f/2 for $299 (or with 18-55 zoom for $349)
Update: awful design. Sent back for refund.
WOW! This kind of pricing used to be the province of crummy tiny sensor cameras. But APS-C is a massive step up from those tiny-sensor toy cameras.
At a time when a Nikon Coolpix A is $1097 and a Ricoh GR is $797 and Sigma DP Merrill is $799 and Sony NEX-7 (no lens) is $1098, and Leica X Vario is $2850, an APS-C compact with interchangeable lenses for $299? You can’t even buy a lens for most APS-C cameras with interchangeable mounts for $299.
The price is stunningly low for this class of camera. Presumably Canon will have some new model, but so what?
My recommendation is to go for the 22mm f/2, which is a 35m full-frame equivalent focal length.
- Canon EOS-M APS-C compact camera with 22mm f/2 for only $299.
- Canon EOS-M APS-C compact camera with 18-55mm f/3.5 - 5.6 for only $349
On a related note, reader Henning K points out that the Pentax K-01 is available at a low price also, and with two kit zooms for about $449 (although I’d prefer just the body and a fixed 40mm or wider lens myself).
