Impact Digital Light Shed
The Impact Digital Light Shed (about $64 for a large model) is a lighting “tent” for photographing objects. I plan on putting it to use photographing camera gear and cycling gear, which admittedly will be a learning experience for me, since in the past I have been restricted to natural light in the evening, or in the shade.
What the Light Shed does is provide even illumination for the subject. The photographer can shoot from the sides or top, and it is possible to insert black cloth to cover one side of the structure, or to provide a background.
The Light Shed is available in various sizes. While strobes (flash) are one way to light the subject, I envision using it using daylight. However, with two or three strobes linked together one can quickly set up conditions for washing the subject in nice even illumination.
Even better, it collapses into a carry bag, which for me mainly means I can store it without taking much space.

Impact's Extra Large Digital Light Shed is a high-quality, translucent cloth material housing for photographing small and medium products that can be lit with daylight, HMI, electronic flash, fluorescent quartz and tungsten light sources.
The Light Shed can be lit from the sides, top, back, front or can be placed on a shooting table for bottom illumination. It includes a removable white, and a black plastic base, offering alternative backgrounds.
