Related: frame averaging

This article is part of a series. See Introduction to Camera Features to start.

Frame averaging can add 2/3/4 stops of usable dynamic range (in terms of producing ultra-clean noise-free shadows), and it can be automated.

Requirements:

  • Interacts and can be used with Optimal Exposure / ETTR and Super Dynammic Range.
  • Lossless-compressed raw file for all frames.
  • Option to retain first frame, last frame, and every nth frame or all frames.
  • Outputs average of all frames along with option to save frames averaging 2/4/8/... frames.
  • Supports manual or auto exposure.
  • Option to intelligently omit areas of motion from the average with parallel “no motion” average in addition to simple average.
