Examples: New York City (Evening on the High Line, Sony NEX-7)
These examples were shot on the 24-megapixel Sony NEX-7.
Shots taken with the 32/1.8 using manual (magnified Live View) focus show it to be a very sharp lens. For this series, I relied upon the NEX-7 autofocus (the lighting was fading fast), and this was a mistake: the NEX-7 is rarely spot-on, typically it backfocuses just a little. My relative unfamiliarity with its performance nicked me here. Future models are likely to offer much improved focusing, but with the NEX-7, magnified Live View via the EVF is strongly advised.
Accordingly, most of these examples should be used to understand the overall lens characteristics (color, contrast, bokeh, drawing style overall), not sharpness. Some images were also shot at low shutter speeds, which might also have subtly reduced sharpness. But the good news is that reduced to 2560 pixels wide, all the images here look excellent.
