Compared: Noctilux, Summilux, APO-Summicron (M240, Wyman Canyon Cabin)
Tested with a late 2014 APO-Summicron-M ASPH, your author’s sample incorporating the production fixes for the excessive flare problems. It was received as a replacement for the June 2014 sample as a “best of batch” lens.
The replacement offers considerably better flare resistance, but just as with the prior sample, shows a slight forward skew of sharpness on the right side (since the troubled June 2013 M240 camera body was also replaced, the same skew came as a bit of a shock, but your author is just going to live with it since 2-3 month absences are unacceptable).
The Leica 50mm f/2 APO-Summicron-M ASPH is perhaps the most highly corrected lens in the Leica M lineup, offering very high performance with a flat field (little or no field curvature).
