Supply Chain Woes Holding up All Sorts of Things, and Cameras and Lenses Too
Across several brands, anything newer or in demand is seeing weeks to months delays now, far exceeding anything historically observed.
Whether it’s the Fujifilm GFX100S system or Canon RF lenses, the trickle of popular items is snapped up for a continual backorder situation for months now. And it does not look like things will clear up anytime soon. There are exception such as Nikon mirrorless that are all almost all in stock, suggesting very low demand or perhaps relative non-newness.
Even established players like LensRentals.com are having trouble getting enough supply.
It is looking to be impossible to get the Canon RF lenses I wanted to test. Every last lens I want and even the lens adapter is backordered (as I wrote this). It’s not like I can do one at a time as that would require buying a Canon EOS R5 to have on hand for some months. Plus I need matching zooms to compare for the best insights, e.g., the Canon RF 14-35/4L vs Canon RF 15-35/2.8L as well as the Canon RF 24-70/2.8L. So I might have to defer Canon mirrorless until this situation resolves... I’ll make that decision within ten days or so if nothing resolves.
Update: same day I wrote this, some Canon stuff arrived at B&H, but promptly went back to backordered status. Stuff dribbles in, and is gone.
Thank you as usual for buying through my B&H Photo links on this site.
