Views from a Bike: Sony RX100
I’ll have coverage on the Sony RX100 in my Guide to ALLVIEW.
I have to hand it to the Sony RX100 on two counts for sure: flash fill is superb and it’s by far the best camera for self portraits yet (I hardly ever get any pictures of myself, so this actually matters to me as a feature!). Reliable focus and exposure are needed for a self-portrait, as well as a reasonably wide lens so I can hold the camera and take the snap.
OK, well a third count: color quality is excellent. No muss, no fuss, just looks darn good on most every shot.
As far as sharpness, I will withhold judgment until I can get CS6 to convert the cursed ARW files (what is wrong with using DNG, Sony? Ditch the custom format nonsense!). The JPEGs in many cases look pretty marginal, I am definitely not satisfied with JPEGs. Fine detail definitely missing with JPEG. Yuck. Of course, downsampled to half-res they look great.
Downpour yesterday and today in the White Mountains, but really heavy for hour today— amazing localized weather patterns with hot and dry sun 10 miles away. The clouds lingered for a while and today’s rain might have been more than just local— hard to tell.
